Jennifer has been with Accent since 2016 and currently works as a Customer Service Support Representative. Her job is very varied and requires her to liaise with both internal and external customers. She speaks regularly to retailers and vendors, both here and abroad. She’s particularly proud of the fact that she helped to create and implement an inventory review program which helps with forecasting and inventory control. When asked what she enjoys most about working at Accent, like many others, she says it’s the people. “It’s a family-type atmosphere” she says. “People really care about each other. There is a strong work ethic with lots of cooperation. People do what it takes to get the job done”.
Jennifer has a D.E.C. in Social Sciences from John Abbott College and took courses in Women’s Studies at Concordia University.
What’s your favourite book and/or movie and why?
I’m an avid reader and I love science fiction. It’s my favourite genre. Three authors that I like are Kim Stanley Robinson, Neal Stephenson and Nnedi Okorafor. The latter is not as well known but her books are superb!
What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
I speak Spanish. My boyfriend is from Colombia so I was motivated to learn so I could understand conversations between him and his family.
If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be and why?
I would love to be a writer.
What was the single-most influential event of your lifetime?
I honestly feel like it has yet to happen. The birth of my nephew made quite an impact on my life, but I truly believe that my big moment is still coming.
What was the most interesting or unusual job you’ve ever had?
I worked in a daycare for a year. It was a bit of a departure for me. I never realized how difficult parenting was until I worked at this place. I went home each night exhausted!
Where would you travel to if you could go anywhere in the world?
I would go to New Zealand. I have an aunt who lives there so I am motivated to make this happen one day.
What’s your go-to Karaoke song?
I’m not a big fan of karaoke so I would have to be talked into doing it. If convinced, I would pick an obscure song, likely something by the band Wilco, so that people would have no way of knowing if I was performing it correctly or not.
